George Walker Bush is the 43rd President of the United States. He was sworn into office on January 20, 2001, and re-elected on November 2, 2004. His second term began when he was sworn in on January 20, 2005. Before he became President, he served from 1995 to 2000 as Governor of the State of Texas.

President Bush, born July 6, 1946, is the eldest son of President George H. W. Bush, who served as the 41st President, and Barbara Bush. He is one of only two U.S. presidents to be the son of a preceding president. After graduating from Yale University in 1968 and Harvard Business School in 1975, Bush worked in oil businesses. In 1977, he married Laura Welch and they later had twin daughters.

On September 11, 2001, a series of terrorist attacks against the United States killed nearly 3,000 people. This tragic event occurred only eight months into Bush's first term as president and would change the course of his presidency from there on out. It can be said that President Bush served the United States during eight of the most consequential years in American history. The decisions that reached his desk impacted people around the world and defined the times in which we live today. His newly released book, Decision Points, chronicles his presidency from his perspective and describes the critical decisions during those eight years.

Since leaving office, President Bush has led the George W. Bush Presidential Center at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. The center includes an active policy institute working to advance initiatives in the fields of education reform, global health, economic growth, and human freedom, with a special emphasis on promoting social entrepreneurship and creating opportunities for women around the world. It will also house an official government archive and a state-of-the-art museum that will open in 2013.
